Eritrean Professional Mentoring Network (EriPMN) Code of Conduct

This Code of Conduct outlines the responsibilities of volunteer mentors and mentees within the Eritrean Professional Mentoring Network (EriPMN), applicable to all participants, regardless of location. Its purpose is to ensure a respectful, professional, and safe environment for everyone involved in EriPMN.

1. Respect and Zero Tolerance for Harassment, Discrimination, and Violence

EriPMN strictly prohibits harassment, discrimination, and any form of violence. All staff, mentors, and mentees are entitled to a safe environment, free from:

  • Discrimination: Unequal treatment based on race, gender, religion, or any grounds covered by the Ontario Human Rights Code.
  • Harassment: Unwanted conduct, comments, or actions that are offensive, embarrassing, or demeaning.
  • Workplace Violence: Threats, physical attacks, or harmful behavior that may cause injury or fear of harm.

Examples of inappropriate behavior include offensive jokes, unwanted physical contact, threatening behavior, or sexually explicit comments. Any form of harassment or violence may lead to removal from the program at EriPMN’s discretion.

If you experience or witness any behavior inconsistent with this policy, report it immediately to EriPMN Coordinators or email to: Eri.mentoring.

2. Confidentiality Agreement

Mentors and mentees are required to maintain confidentiality regarding personal and business information shared during the mentoring process. This includes:

  • Personal Information: Discussions or issues addressed between mentors and mentees must remain confidential unless both parties agree otherwise.
  • Business Information: Confidential business details shared during the mentorship must not be disclosed publicly.

Breaches of confidentiality may result in removal from the program.

3. Conflict of Interest Policy

Mentors and mentees must disclose any potential conflicts of interest. This includes:

  • Gifts: Gifts exchanged between mentors and mentees should not exceed $50 annually.
  • Personal Relationships: Intimate relationships between mentors and mentees or their families are not permitted unless a prior relationship exists, which must be declared to EriPMN.
  • Personal Gain: Mentors must not use their role for personal or financial gain, and mentees cannot offer paid work or business opportunities to their mentors.

Failure to adhere to this policy may result in termination of the mentoring relationship.

4. Consent to Collection, Use, and Disclosure of Personal Information

EriPMN collects personal information to effectively match mentors and mentees and ensure smooth program delivery. This data is kept confidential and will only be shared with EriPMN staff, service partners, and funders as required by law. EriPMN is committed to protecting your personal information in accordance with privacy laws.

By participating in the program, you consent to the collection and use of your personal information for the purposes outlined above.
